Traquair Medieval Fayre

Traquair dates back to 1107. It was originally a hunting lodge for the Kings and Queens of Scotland and later a refuge for Catholic priests in times of terror. The Stuarts of Traquair played their role in the colourful history of Scotland as supporters of Mary Queen of Scots and the Jacobite cause.

The Medieval Fayre is an excuse to dress up and have some fun while keeping some of this history alive.

Set against the backdrop of Scotland’s oldest inhabited house, Traquair House, Innerleithen, near Peebles in the Scottish Borders, it provides atmosphere and context to the event.

These images were taken on 28 May 2011 the first day of a two day event. This event was one of many that are organised there throughout the year. If you live in the area and are looking for something to do, it is a good day out, less than 30 miles drive from Edinburgh through scenic countryside. Read more

Co-op fire damage

“The Co-operative Food” a.k.a. the Co-op building in the Bankton Retail Centre adjacent to South Livingston Train Station was burned out in a fire overnight (2 May 2011). Media reports indicate the police are considering the incident as suspicious.

Demolition began quickly but looks to have halted. I hope they can rebuild it quickly as it was a popular and handy store. Read more
